This is a RIPASSO SUPERIORE. Not just Ripasso. It is higher quality than regular ripasso with the label Valpolicella Ripasso only.

Matured in oak for about 18 months.

Ripasso is affectionally called the "Baby Amarone".

What is the meaning of Ripasso? First the dried grapes for Amarone is fermented, then the wine is drained away into barrels for aging, leaving behind only the skins.

Then more bunches of fresh grapes are harvested and crushed for fermentation. During this time, the grape skins balanced from the Amarone is added into this new fermenting wine.

Since the skins are wet and contain some wine of the Amarone, they add that additional Amarone characteristics into this new fresh wine.

That is why it is called RIPASSO.
